Collage Planning

The Guidance Department at Catherine McAuley High School is designed to help students navigate through the college search and application processes. It is very important for families to strive for “good matches" between their daughter's interests, abilities, and talents and their college or university choices. Counseling and guidance is provided in order to make appropriate and realistic college selections. We strive to educate our families regarding the college admissions process, as they, with their daughters, are the most integral parts of this process.

The Guidance Department has produced a Guide to the College Admissions Process for students and families. This extensive publication provides information and tips about the entire college application process from start to finish and is updated each year. This is an invaluable resource for all your questions.

There are a variety of ways students can identify colleges that match their interests and abilities. The Guidance Office meets individually with students to support them in their college quest. The CHOICES software program provides a School Finder section that assists in the college search. By indicating preferences for location, size, academic rigor, degree program, etc., users are able to generate a list of colleges and universities that might be a good match. College Board, US News & World Report, college websites, and a huge variety of college informational books are produced yearly. Students should research and visit, if possible, all schools of interest.
