Good Cause Thrift Shop

For nearly fifteen years, Good Cause has stood as a pillar in the greater Portland community, offering affordable clean clothing, home furnishings, and other wares that individuals can purchase to own.  Managed by Sister Mary Quinn, RSM, the Thrift Shop serves as more than just a store chock full of merchandise; the establishment represents and carries out the ideals of selflessness and compassion, values that the Sisters of Mercy and their predecessor, Catherine McAuley, have cultivated for generations. 

In addition to selling goods and reaching out to members of the community, the Shop directly assists a number of organizations in need, namely McAuley Residence, the Preble Street Resource Center, St. Vincent de Paul’s Soup Kitchen, and the Ronald McDonald House.  Moreover, Good Cause works to carry the mission of Mother McAuley on a global level; the Shop provides basic necessities to those in Haiti, Zimbabwe, Honduras, the Dominican Republic, and Peru.

Good Cause’s mission doesn’t end there, however.  Annually, the Thrift Shop donates its net gross to Catherine McAuley High School.  These funds directly impact students in need of financial assistance, allowing many young women the privilege of being educated in the Mercy tradition.

Donations may be dropped off to this location from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
