On Monday, November 7th, twenty CMHS students attended the 4th annual UMaine Engineering Trip, where they were able to tour various facilities within the College of Engineering and get a closer look at what the field of engineering is all about.  They heard from numerous professors of engineering and had lunch with current UMaine engineering students, including four CMHS alumnae: Allison Goodridge ’11, Aoife Ryle ’11, and Jess Murphy ’11, all in engineering programs, and Tabitha Dupuis ’11, a zoology major.  We missed alumna Laura Duran ’09, as she was off doing her co-op as part of her third year in Chemical Engineering.  It was a fun and educational day had by all!

McAuley Remembers 9-11 And Receives Flag from Marines in Afghanistan

September 12th, 2011
http://www.mcauleyhs.org/images/PDF_Icon.gif

On Friday, September 9, 2011, in a solemn, yet hope-filled ceremony, students at Catherine McAuley High school received an American Flag that was flown over Camp Leatherneck in Afghanistan. Lance Corporal, Robert Richardson III, the brother of McAuley student, Katie Richardson, and son of executive secretary, Patti Richardson, brought the flag back with him when he returned from his tour in Afghanistan earlier this summer. The flag had been flown over Camp Leatherneck as a show of gratitude towards McAuley, who delivered over three hundred pounds of care packages last spring to the soldiers serving there.  Katie and her mother presented the flag to Principal Peg Downing, who delivered a moving and humble speech in gratitude for all that Lance Corporal Richardson and his fellow soldiers have done for our country.  Ms. Downing also called upon McAuley students to continue to do “what we do here everyday,” through service to their world, and each other.

Miss Maine, and 2009 McAuley Graduate, Julia Furtado, graced the nearly 200 McAuley students in their newly remodeled auditorium, with a solo of “Amazing Grace” and a recital of a published poem she wrote while a student here about the tragedies of 9/11. Following Miss Furtado’s tear-provoking poetry, McAuley Choral Director, Nick MacDonald, sang, “God Bless America,”  leading students, faculty and spectators to their feet as they joined in song.

Please view the link below to see a clip from the ceremony, taken by News Channel 6.
