McAuley Mock Trial Prevails
November 3, 2008 – 1:31 pmThe McAuley Mock Trial Team prevailed in its first round match-up against Freeport this past Tuesday. The trial was held at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Portland, where all of the attorneys and witnesses turned in strong performances.
This year’s case is a hypothetical situation in which a public school senior is dismissed from participating in the election for student council president because her campaign is based on a religious theme. It tests the tension between the First Amendment’s Establishment and Free Exercise clauses.
Special thanks is extended to the team’s attorney-coaches, Mrs. Lynn Mistretta and Mr. Pat Scanlon, for their assistance, guidance and support. Special appreciation is also extended to Mr. Rick Colella for his input in the development of a confident, knowledgeable team.
