Catherine McAuley High School, Maine’s only private, Catholic high school for young women, has established three scholarships to be awarded annually to incoming freshmen. Each scholarship is based on the results of the High School Placement Test (HSPT), which the School administers three times a year to eighth graders applying for admission.
Taylor Church, the daughter of Jeff and Renee Church of Windham, has been awarded McAuley’s Academic Excellence Scholarship, receiving full tuition for the four years she attends Catherine McAuley High School. Scoring in the 99th percentile nationally on the HSPT, Church is the top-ranking student of those seeking enrollment in the Class of 2013. She is currently a student at Holy Cross in South Portland.
Caroline Martin, the daughter of William Martin and Jennifer Anderson of Old Orchard Beach, is the recipient of McAuley’s Academic Scholarship, receiving half tuition for the four years she attends McAuley. Scoring in the 99th percentile nationally on the HSPT, Martin is one of the top-ranking students of those seeking enrollment in the Class of 2013. She is an eighth grader at St. James in Biddeford.
Samantha Rideout, the daughter of Kevin and Sandy Rideout of New Gloucester, has been selected to receive McAuley’s President’s Scholarship, valued at $1000 for the four years she attends McAuley. Scoring in the 96th percentile nationally on the HSPT, Rideout was the top-ranking student on the first of three HSPT exams administered at the School. She is currently a student at St. John’s in Brunswick.
Developed collaboratively by the School’s Faculty, Administration, and Board of Trustees, these scholarships reflect McAuley’s commitment to academic excellence and the hope that each student becomes a ‘woman of Mercy’: well educated, self-disciplined, enriched by diversity, able to lead and willing to serve others.
