Seven students from Catherine McAuley High School have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the AP Exams.
Class of 2009 graduates Elise Mercier of Portland and Meghan Smith of Cape Elizabeth qualified as AP Scholars after receiving grades of 3 or higher on three or more of the AP Exams.
Portland’s Katherine Fecteau and Buxton’s Olivia MacKenzie, both 2009 graduates, received recognition as AP Scholars with Honor. Both scored an average of at least 3.25 on four or more of the AP Exams taken.
Scoring an average grade of at least 3.5 on five or more of the AP Exams, Class of 2009 Valedictorian Laura Duran of Falmouth is celebrated as an AP Scholar with Distinction, along with fellow graduates Macauley Kenney of North Yarmouth and Allison Walker-Elders of Lisbon Falls.
The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program (AP) provides motivated and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school, and to earn college credit, or both, for successful performance on the AP Exams. About 18 percent of the nearly 1.7 million students worldwide who took AP Exams performed at a sufficiently high level to also earn an AP Scholar Award.
