McAuley students Emma Scanlon and Tori McAllister, both members of the Class of 2010, recently qualified as state finalists in the 2010 US Senate Youth Program, making them two of the top ten students in the state.

Scanlon and McAllister received this honor after taking a qualifying exam that tested their knowledge of U.S. Government, the U.S. Consititution, and current political events.

Both students will travel to Augusta on November 23, where they will compete at the state level for two seats at a week-long government and leadership education program in Washington, D.C. in March 2010.

In addition to the trip to Washington, D.C. with all expenses paid, winners will each receive a $5000 college scholarship.

The US Senate Youth Program is a national initiative to provide a yearly opportunity for talented young people with demonstrated leadership abilities to deepen their understanding of America’s political processes and encourage them to consider careers in public service.

McAuley alumna Monike Santana ’08 represented Maine in Washington, D.C. in 2008.
