STANDISH, ME – With a jump shot made in the closing seconds against Skidmore College on Sunday, Carolyn Freeman ‘10 (Scarborough, ME/McAuley) became the 19th member of the Saint Joseph’s Women’s Basketball 1,000-Point Club.

Freeman, who entered the game against Skidmore eight points shy of the milestone, tallied nine points in a 60-49 loss to the Thoroughbreds in the Coastal Maine Classic, hosted by Bowdoin College, on Sunday. She joins her mom, Linda (Johnson) Freeman ‘81, who was the first SJC women’s basketball player to reach the landmark, on the Monks’ 1,000-point banner. Johnson ranks fourth in team history with 1,560 points and was a member of the inaugural SJC Athletics Hall of Fame class in 2000.

To have a mother-daughter combination score 1,000 points at the same institution is believed to be a rarity. Upon research, the only other documented feat of this kind occurred at Cedar Crest College (PA) when Courtney Porzio joined her mom, Melissa, on the Falcons’ 1,000-point banner in 2006.

Freeman is the first St. Joe’s women’s player since Abbie Rice ‘04, who hit the mark as a senior in 2004, to reach the 1,000-point mark. The senior guard is also the 11th player in team history to reach the 1,000-point and 500-rebound plateaus. Through 11 games in her senior season, and 87 games overall, Freeman has tallied 1,001 points and 537 caroms.

One of the most prolific three-point shooters to ever don the Royal Blue, Freeman ranks third in both three-pointers made (161) and threes attempted (471) in her career at St. Joe’s. Her 34.2% conversion rate from beyond the arc ranks fifth all-time and her 1.9 treys made per game ranks first in team history.

Congratulations, Carolyn!  The McAuley community is proud of this impressive accomplishment!
