Catherine McAuley High School’s Social Action Club recently led the School in collecting an impressive $625 worth of pennies to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) of Massachusetts, money that will not only assist patients and their families dealing with cancer, but help fund blood research in over a dozen hospitals.

Ms. Cook’s homeroom came in first place with $165.03 collected, followed by Ms. Dubreuil’s with $111.40.  Ms. Franey’s homeroom took third place with a total of $46.46.  For raising over $100, first and second place homerooms are Bronze Champions and will receive a special award from the LLS.  A pizza party and breakfast celebration will be awarded to the first and second place winners respectively.

In related news, the Social Action Club also led a recent effort to collect jeans for homeless teens in Haiti and in the greater Portland area.  Pairing with local clothing store Aeropostale, the “Jeans for Teens” campaign saw an extraordinary 82 pairs of jeans collected.

Kudos to the Social Action Club for sharing our Mercy values of service, hospitality and compassion with the surrounding community…and beyond.
