Congratulations to McAuley senior, Alexa Coulombe, who recently signed her National Letter of Intent to attend and play basketball at Boston College.

On Saturday, July 30, 2011, McAuley junior, Taylor Church, competed in Maine’s first Freshwater Open Swim competition held at Sebego Lake. Miss Church achieved a first place finish in the 5k swim, which was open to anyone from across the United States, and sponsored by USA Swimming.  Taylor is part of Catherine McAuley’s swim team, which garnered a fourth place finish and the coveted Sportsmanship Award this past season in the State Swimming Competition.

Kudos are also extended to McAuley freshman, Katie Call, who finished 18th in the 3k portion of this race.

Congratulations to both Taylor and Katie for such an outstanding, physically challenging achievement! We look forward to seeing you compete for McAuley this coming season!

Please join us for our First Annual McAuley Cross Country Alumnae Run!  The run will be held on Tuesday, August 16 at 6:00 pm, beginning at the McAuley Campus.  The 2 mile course will take runners around the McAuley campus and through Baxter Woods.

This annual event will give the current McAuley Cross Country Team a chance to meet and run with McAuley alumnae, and allows McAuley graduates the opportunity to run with some former teammates, and give some advice to the novice runners! Whether you have been running all summer long, or this will be your first run, you are certain to have fun visiting with old teammates, or making new friends!

Snacks and beverages will be available after the run, and the event is FREE, so tell all of your friends, old and new!

On Sunday, July 10, 2011, AAU Girls Basketball team, the Maine Firecrackers, defeated Team Ohio 55-48 to win the 9^th grade Division 2 National Championship game at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida. McAuley rising sophomores, #4 Allie Clement, and #11 Olivia Smith, are two of the Maine Firecrackers team members. These Lady Lions are primed to carry this winning momentum to McAuley for another championship year in basketball! Great job, ladies; the McAuley community couldn’t be prouder!

Catherine McAuley High School has hired Bill Goodman as its head Varsity Basketball Coach, McAuley’s Athletic Administrator Joe Kilmartin announced on Friday, June 3.

“Bill’s proven ability to lead talented athletes, his coaching background and personal character made him the correct choice for McAuley at this time.  I believe his overall experience will insure that McAuley basketball and its student athletes will continue to prosper and grow.”

Mr. Goodman comes to McAuley from Greely High School where he served as Varsity Coach for three years and led the Rangers to the Western Maine Finals twice and the Semi-Finals this past year.  Before heading to Greely, Goodman had been a long time assistant coach at Deering High School.

Coach Goodman replaces Amy Vachon, who is now an assistant coach at the University of Maine.  Amy was Coach Goodman’s assistant for two years at Greely before leading McAuley to the State of Championship this past winter.

Mr. Goodman lives in Falmouth with his family and also coaches the Deering golf team.

A hearty congratulations is extended to McAuley’s Varsity Basketball Team for defeating Deering in the Western Maine championship game.  Their blend of skill, athleticism and sportsmanship came out on top throughout the competition itself and in overtime (41-40).

The McAuley community wishes the team luck as they play for the state title on Saturday, March 5 at 4:00 PM at the Augusta Civic Center. Join us in your best green and gold as we show our true Lion pride!

Go Lions!

Congratulation to the McAuley Swim Team for being awarded the Class B 2010-2011 Sportsmanship Award at the State Championship meet in Orono.   This is the third  time in four years that our girls have been voted by their peers to have the most sportsmanship.

After finishing 4^th at the Southwestern meet, where senior Aoife Ryle received the Southwestern Maine Swim Officials Scholarship, McAuley headed to Orono to compete for the Class B state title.  With top performances from sophomore Libby Gajewski (2^nd place in the 200 free and 3^rd place in the 100 fly), and senior Aoife Ryle (2^nd place in the 500 free and 3^rd place in the 400 free relay with the foursome of Ryle and sophomores Taylor Church, Libby Gajewski, and Audrey Thames), McAuley ended up with a solid 4^th place finish.

In the words of coaches Amy Regan, CMHS ’03, and Kary Goodman, CMHS ’04, “WE ARE SO PROUD”.

Kudos to Class of 2007 graduate, Abby Wentworth, for being featured in the February 3rd edition of the Press Herald.

Wentworth, a senior at Manhattan College in Riverdale, NY, is proving that success on the basketball court comes not only from skill, but from dedication and team spirit.

Congratulations to McAuley senior, Rebecca Knight, who signed her National Letter of Intent on Wednesday, November 10, to attend and play basketball at the University of Maine.

Knight, a four-year varsity starter for the basketball program, will be following in the footsteps of McAuley’s new Varsity Basketball Coach, Amy Vachon.
