While at McAuley, the Chilean girls have their own schedules and attend school as part of the student body. The immersion helps them greatly improve their English and understand the United States culture. They, in turn, enrich our student body with their experiences and PowerPoint presentations about their country and culture. Friends are made all around. There are six girls living with host families at McAuley. Host families and Mrs. Dubreuil arrange a variety of activities and field trips for the students including City Tours of Portland, ski trip to Sugarloaf, a lobster dinner and trips to other Maine sites. It is a wonderful enriching experience for all involved, and life-changing for many. Please contact Mrs. Dubreuil if you have any questions or comments.

Catherine McAuley High School was named State Champion of the “We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution” competition sponsored by the Center for Civic Education. The championship was held at the Abramson Center at USM on March 6. Each year, high school teams all over the country spend months examining the principles upon which the Constitution is based. This year the Advanced Placement American Government class of twenty two students clinched the State Championship, advancing them to compete at the national level. On May 2, the class will travel to Washington, D.C. once again to represent the State of Maine in the National “We the People” competition. This is the school’s fifth appearance in the acclaimed academic program that tests knowledge of the contents and application of the United States Constitution in the format of a mock Congressional hearing. The members of the class are as follows: Teacher Mr. Joseph Wagner of Lyman, Michelle Brown of Portland, Rebecca Weidler of Portland, Erin McKenna of Portland, Natalie Brown of Scarborough, Daphne Politis of Scarborough, Kathleen Demarco of Scarborough, Kathleen Doyle of Falmouth, Nicole Rainville of Falmouth, Emily Lafond of Falmouth, Robyn Sukeforth of Falmouth, Monike Santana of South Portland, Hannah Johnson of Cumberland, Sarah Brazell of Cape Elizabeth, Charlotte Kinkade-Boymer of Kennebunk, Deanna McLaughlin of Gorham, Caitlin Dodge of Buxton, Meghan Rhoades of Standish, Michelle Twomey of Limington, Olivia Tourangeau of Old Orchard, Michelle Paquette of Saco, Kali Pulkkinen of Lewiston, and Jessica George of Madison, NH
